School shopping isn't quite the fun ordeal I remember as a child. I was so excited to take the 3 1/2 year old shopping for supplies. I pictured in my head how fun this would be. We would oooh and ahhh over the selection of supplies. We would calmly and happily select pencils and markers. We would not pick the most expensive back pack. Aren't I a funny little thing?!
School shopping did not exactly go like the little saga I made it in my head. It was more like a 3 1/2 year old being impatient because his frazzled mother couldn't figure out the dang difference between antibacterial wipes and Clorox wipes. I couldn't find the box with 12 markers, only 8. I couldn't for the life of me figure out why my kids wants a Speed Racer back pack. Who is Speed Racer, and how does he know this character? He was adamant and even did a little eye roll at my lack of cartoon knowledge! Stinker.
I also didn't anticipate the rudeness of other frazzled shoppers. I told another mom sorry 3 times for my cart being in her way, but she never acknowledged me. Yeah, I know. I should have stopped with one sorry and been on my way. There was just something about being ignored. I also didn't want her to think I was being intentionally rude with my cart, and her not acknowledging me led me to believe she thought I was the rude one! I make mountains out of molehills quite often. It makes me crazy on a regular basis.
Anyhow, we got out of Target alive. Along with school supplies, we had to purchase a carseat for Eric's car so said 3 1/2 year old can get to and from school in his father's car. I've never made such a purchase without Eric's input. It felt weird to be making the decision alone. I like what I picked though! Evan likes it too. He tried it out on the drive home from seeing Dad at his work and promptly fell asleep in the backseat. Must be a perfect carseat!
Next year Evan can go shopping with me to pick out his backpack and lunchbox and that is it! The rest I will handle on my own. I should have listened to those who have gone before me!
